Heading out this weekend for Memorial Day? Expecting no traffic? You might want to think again. While holiday weekends are full of sun, fun, good times and food, there’s usually always a trip that needs to be made to get you there. In addition to making the trip on time, safety is always a concern, and the last thing you want is an accident which leads to a personal injury. The unfortunate truth is that you can’t control everyone on the road, but you can prepare on your own to be safe and ready for anything, should it happen. Here are a few things you should note.
- Tire Pressure. Before leaving home, measure your tire pressure and inspect your tires for anything out of the ordinary. The absolute last thing you’ll need is a blowout which can be both a nuisance, but very dangerous as well.
- Line Of Sight. Even if you’re driving through the day, it’s important to make sure your line of sight is clear. This includes a windshield free of cracks, adequate amounts of washer fluid, and operable light bulbs. Two of these might land you a summons if they’re not working or broken.
- First Aid. Should you become involved in anything from a small fender bender to a larger accident, it’s important to make sure that you have everything you need in order to be ready. A first aid kid is great, as are road flares and reflective triangles to signal other drivers to use caution.
- Documents. Again, if anything were to happen, it’s important to have everything you need to provide to a law enforcement officer who can help the situation. You don’t want to be caught without a proof of insurance or registration if/when they come knocking on the window.
Of course, an accident is one thing that can ruin your weekend of fun, which is less than favorable. Should you become involved in this type of issue, make sure you’re arming yourself with a qualified attorney who can help get the job done and win you back what you deserve.
